The Bursary Foundation is a catalyst for social and educational mobility

Introduction to The Bursary Foundation

The Bursary Foundation believes that independent schools are catalysts for social mobility, and that to achieve this, bursary funds must be directed to the pupils where we can add the most value. We believe that these children are those with the highest potential from the least well-off backgrounds.

Attracting this type of talent to independent schools isn’t easy.

The Bursary Foundation has a deep understanding of the barriers faced by pupils and their families when it comes to accessing and thriving in independent schools and can help applicants to overcome such barriers, leaving school development professionals to focus on raising much needed funds for bursaries.

We do this in the following ways …

  • Building networks of primary schools in disadvantaged communities where we hunt in the long grass for hidden and often overlooked superstars
  • Encouraging and supporting applicants from the brightest pupils in the most hard to reach schools
  • Profiling pupils for admissions teams covering academic potential, family circumstance, readiness to fit in etc
  • Offer guidance for schools around best practice for supporting disadvantaged and sometimes vulnerable pupils to thrive

This leaves schools to concentrate on fundraising for bursaries, safe in the knowledge that The Bursary Foundation can bring outstanding pupils ready to show their potential.
