The Bursary Foundation is based on the principal that all children, irrespective of family circumstance, should have opportunities realise their potential. This includes children who have high academic potential and who might be suited to an independent secondary school.

How does The Bursary Foundation work?

Children are nominated for our tuition programme by their headteachers. Pupils receive 2 hours of tuition each week in Maths, English and Reasoning. Families receive close support with 11+ applications in the form of application workshops, help with financial assessments, pupil progress meetings and home visits.

What types of schools does The Bursary Foundation work with?

The Bursary Foundation tutors pupils in disadvantaged areas. Most of the children that we tutor are Pupil Premium recipients, and all of them are from low-income families.

The pupil timeline

Together with headteachers, we identify pupils in the Summer Term of Year 4

Pupils receive tuition throughout Year 5 and the Autumn term of Year 6. Tuition happens in school time.

We support families with 11+ applications to independent schools and state-funded selective Grammar schools in Year 6.

Pupils receive bursary awards and are supported with the transition to Year 7 and beyond.
